Expanded Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection contract gives more government agencies access to SPAWAR’s advanced security systems
VIENNA, VA (August 16, 2007) – Serco Inc. announced today it was awarded a $62 million, three-year contract that expands its partnership with the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWARSYSCEN) San Diego, California to design and deploy advanced anti-terrorism systems for ships and infrastructure at U.S. Navy ports and federal facilities. Under the Naval Electronic Surveillance Systems (NESS) contract, Serco will provide engineering, technical, logistical and management services for a range of government agencies. The contract value could reach $115 million if all five of the six-month award options are exercised.
This contract represents an extension of a separate, $63.9 million port security contract awarded to Serco in April. Together, these contracts will enable SPAWAR to integrate more effective and efficient communications between federal and state and local government agencies and improve their ability to collectively respond to terrorism threats.
“The partnership between Serco and SPAWAR is gaining the attention of other government agencies that are looking for best practices and best technologies to protect critical infrastructure and operations,” said Kent Brown, Vice President of the Engineering Business Unit for Serco Inc. “This contract will give these agencies greater access to our solutions and expand our nation’s ability to share information and respond to threats in a coordinated way.”
In addition to extending across U.S. Navy agencies such the Program Executive Offices (PEO), Commander Naval Installation Command (CNIC) and Naval Intelligence Command (NAVINTCOM), Serco’s Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection services are being offered to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), and other Department of Defense agencies and government activities.
