SmartBuilding Solutions
Serco's SmartBuilding methodology provides clients with leading edge, end-to-end communications system solutions. Our proprietary solution enables the completion of communications systems installations within a highly compressed construction schedule. We provide customers the ability to gain a fully functional system that provides significant risk reduction while maximizing up-time. Serco's ability to deliver meaningful operational improvements in the near-term, while incorporating additional capabilities in rapid succession allows real-time user feedback and prevents the IT system from becoming quickly obsolete. This capability provides sizable down-stream capital expenditure savings, because the system is designed to grow to satisfy developing technical and functional requirements.

Our SmartBuilding approach also provides design efficiencies through the integration of all communication systems into a scalable network. We adhere to Building Industry Consultant Services International (BICSI) standards, and the use of BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designers (RCDDs) and BICSI certified installers, ensuring the highest quality systems available with international standards-based practices. Serco's quality of installation and documentation for the entire project is consistent, which pays immediate dividends in the form of reduced Operations & Maintenance (O&M) costs.

Enterprise Architecture
Serco developed a net-centric, Unified Modeling Language-based Enterprise Architecture (EA) solution for defining, designing, and delivering solutions to satisfy customers' mission-critical requirements. Our approach to EA employs a state-of-the-practice object-oriented analysis and a design system engineering approach to improve system architect's understanding of how best to integrate enterprise operations

Serco's UML Animator tool is the cornerstone for capabilities based assessments, exercise planning and mission area concept of operations development and refinement. Our UML Animator has proven highly successful in assisting non-architects to verify and validate architectural findings. The system allows users to animate activity models, which enables architects to execute the flow of data through the model. This provides an efficient test and refinement of the model logic, while improving our ability to develop more highly interoperable architectures.

In 2010, Serco made a significant EA advancement with the demonstration of our 3rd generation UML Animator. This new capability enables activity models from UML-compliant tools to "drive" a physics-based, 3-dimentional (3D) graphics. Our UML models provide a basis for business process modeling, while the 3D tool provides the framework to analyze the effects of the physical environment and rendering the scenario in full 3D graphics.

Serco's EA approach was honored with the 2010 Defense Enterprise Architecture Achievement Award for their solution in support of the Air Force Space Command's Joint Space Operations Center Mission System program.

FAMEMS
Serco's Facility and Mission Equipment Management System (FAMEMS) utilizes a computerized management system, linked to a resource management database of all facilities, equipment, and parts. This database turns the facilities, asset, and configuration management challenges into a single point solution. Serco created this system by integrating three-dimensional (3D) drawing and modeling tools with database tools, capable of handling tens of thousands of items with selected, linked resource information. FAMEMS models facilities, large and small, with all parts and equipment and corresponding bill of material information.

The system provides dimensionally correct, "virtual models" of operational equipment, building, and support systems with inter-linking cabling. Models and drawings are linked to parts that are linked to individual database records, with resource information on each part. FAMEMS delivers a 3D graphical and layered rendering of facilities, rooms, equipment, and communications/information technology paths. In combination with our Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) service delivery process, FAMEMS enhances mission assurance through more effective response to outages, and configuration and change management.

ProgramVision Serco's ProgramVision is a breakthrough management methodology that gives our clients the unprecedented visibility into and control over the items that matter. The ProgramVision dashboard creates a clear line of sight between the activities and the resources in the enterprise, and the outcomes and value they ultimately influence. To bring the new business model to life, we portray the strategic and operational architecture in a VisionMap - a multi-layered and dynamic visualization of the enterprise that creates holistic visibility of performance, and of what needs to be managed and why. The VisionMap allows executives and managers at all levels to share perspectives, see cause and effect relationships, understand the impact of decisions, and work collaboratively to deliver strategic outcomes.

Our outcome based approach creates a strategic architecture within which stakeholders can share a view of what the mission is, how the business fits together to support it, and where and why value is created. By deconstructing the operational architecture down to systems and technical levels, we identify the people, processes, and information that contribute to strategic goals, enabling us to: leverage strengths as well as see gaps and obstacles; clarify accountabilities and highlight dependencies; and orchestrate and rationalize enterprise systems to better support strategic objectives.
